- Gratuity is payable only after a minimum of 5 years of continuous service under the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972
- The maximum tax-exempt gratuity limit was raised to ₹20 lakh for private sector employees
- The Act applies to establishments with 10 or more employees — factories, mines, oilfields, plantations, ports, railways, and shops
- Gratuity calculation considers only Basic Salary + Dearness Allowance (DA), not HRA, bonuses, or other allowances
